Ever notice how cartoons vs live action movies display different deer species to portray the mythical Santa's reindeer? On the left you have an actual reindeer, which are also known as caribou. Big and husky creatures ready for winter sleigh pulling. On the right, you have the more cartoon inspired, white tailed deer look-alike, which is a bit more elegant, and streamlined. Either way, both animals play the part of Christmas mascots extremely well.
